The Blessings of Liberty

Recently I came to the conclusion about the constitutional crisis our nation faces: there is no man-made solution to our problems. At that point my mindset was to bide my time until my Lord and Savior Jesus the Messiah returns to set things right. As I understand it He will clean house, then our Heavenly Father will give us a new heaven and earth. I don’t understand how it will all work but it sounds wonderfully dreamlike. What about until then? As I said, I’d essentially resigned myself to waiting it out. Sure I had imaginings of focusing on urging people to Christ – expounding on these things but a funny thing happened. Two, actually three mass shootings in the span of a week. These shootings did not change my view per se but my reaction to the standard response did.

The response from the left was so predictable, I can spit out their talking points by rote. All one needs to is look at the headlines to note who loves liberty and who does not. Democrat, Republican – there is no difference in many cases as this episode proved out. Now what?

Well, I for one, called for the total repeal of ALL gun legislation. The constitution is clear. We all know it, just as the words of Jesus were crystalline:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)

You can dance around all your “isms’ all you want. You can try to twist these words to find a “back door” but facts is facts when the rubber hits the road.

Likewise the 2nd Amendment Guarantee

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

While volumes exist trying to limit this guarantee by nitpicking the first part of this sentence. Anyone reading the words of the founders concerning arms should quickly conclude this is not a limiting clause. Just like the words of Jesus – it says what it says. There will be no further discussion on the authority of the 2nd amendment nor on what Jesus said. You either believe these words or you don’t. Your choice.

As the title states this essay concerns the blessings of liberty.

If you are paying attention, you may have noticed the second amendment says “arms” not “firearms”. My contention is said arms are a means to an end – the end being self-defense, defense of our families and loved ones, self defense of our communities and our nation. This is also where I see “the militia” coming in. These rights were never, ever “granted” by the Constitution. It was simply stated as a means to define and guarantee these God-given rights so as to prevent usurpation by government. How’s that working out for us?

Obviously it is not. Our rights have been shredded by rogues who have seized power and now deign to lord it over us by micro-managing every aspect of our lives. At this point they’ve devoured most of the meat and are now picking at the bones of our liberty. I do not know about you but I’ve seen nothing that looks like a government “of the people, by the people and for the people” for a long time, if ever. So what can we do about it?

We can wait and see. My prediction is our fate will resemble that of pre-WWII Germany. No, Trump is not the reincarnation of Hitler. I doubt if he will be elected again. That means the next president will be worse… much worse.

Strangely enough, I really see much of the populace on both sides wanting the same thing – liberty. This is our common ground. Those on the left would behoove themselves to open their eyes to see more government is always, always always the enemy of liberty. Slavery is NOT freedom.

Some propose violence, whether to snuff out the other side or take the reigns of government by force. Many on both sides see another civil war coming. Some say it is already upon us. As for me, I do not see us at that point yet. Could it happen? Certainly. Some are stirring that pot already, but this is doomed to failure. At best, wide-spread violence will destroy us. It would not end well.

So then what? We need to stand up and be counted for the restoration of our liberties. Mind you this will not be an easy path. The controllers will do their best to seek out and destroy any who oppose them, no matter how peacefully. They already have the “legal” tools at their disposal in such legislation is the Patriot Act and others. Now they vie for national red flag laws. I don’t know what else they think they need but they will grant themselves whatever they want to allow themselves to dig in. There is just one problem with this.

They have no authority to grant rights. Nor do they have the authority to take them away. Our rights, our liberties are the blessings of a Holy God. He is our defender. Thus I call upon all Christians to stand and claim our God-given liberties. Pray and look for Him to defend us and the blessings He has bestowed upon us.

Yes, they can raid our homes. Yes, they can imprison us. Yes, they can even kill us, but they will not, can not defeat the One True God. He is our shield and defender.

When Ken Lane at Knuckledraggin My Life Away published Enough is Enough – It Is Time To Repeal All Gun Laws one commenter urged me to “Trust in Jesus”. He was not wrong. He made me think about my own reaction to these episodes.

As to the shootings themselves, my gut reaction differed little than to a natural disaster or a train wreck. Why? Because dead is dead, to those who died and their loved ones – the manner of death matters much less than the loss of someone close. But it is so senseless! Today I woke to a story of a father of five, “staunch supporter of the rights of immigrants” was killed in a car accident by… an illegal alien. How much sense does his death make?

As to the reactions to those shootings, well, like I said, we can all recite the rhetoric word for word. It never changes. So I had to dig deep down to figure out why I feel so strongly about this and then I realized the truth. My Heavenly Father has blessed me, blessed us all with a nation founded on liberty. It is our duty to defend and protect these liberties as we do our own persons, families homes and communities. Call it “a Word”, an inspiration or a feeling – but I feel strongly moved by my Heavenly Father to stand on this principle and encourage ALL citizens – my brothers and sisters in Christ in particular to stand with me.

Again I say – stand. Stand with me. Boldly declare our liberties are God-given and are not to be dismissed by mere men. Expect God to honor His blessings as we honor and depend upon Him to defend us.

Scripture is rife with instances where the One True God honored the obedience of the faithful. One needs only to consider the stories of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to get the idea. God granted us the blessings of liberty – it is our duty to stand and claim them.
