Memorial Day Is About Remembering…

Maybe today’s rain is a good thing because it seems too many think of Memorial Day as a day to bring out the barbeque and party. My mom always wanted to visit her parent’s grave on this day. That’s okay too. We did that, but…

Officially, Memorial Day is one day we set aside to remember those who fought and died for our country. Since it became a national “Monday” holiday – it has always been observed on the last Monday in May. Contrast that to all of June designated as  “Gay Pride Month”. We set aside one day to “remember” those who sacrificed all for the freedom to shove homosexuality in all our faces for a month.

For those of you taking offence at the above, please hold your comments until a heterosexuals’ pride month is established. Maybe then I’ll be ready to listen.

Back to the real topic of today, I hesitate to say “Happy Memorial Day” as I do not see remembrance as anything but solemn. These men and women, many of whom would not be allowed to drink a beer in today’s society at the age they died, had mom’s and dad’s, brothers, sisters, sweethearts, and best friends. All of whom lost someone dear to them far to soon. Our nation lost as well. We lost vibrant, young, and talented citizens and whatever they may have contributed to our nation. No doubt someone will point out some of those who died would have broke bad in one way or another. True that, but those who may have accomplished some good far outweigh those others.

To this end, all I ask is to take a few moments today to remember.

One fallen, out of many

God bless you and God bless those who gave their lives for our nation.
